Press Release

25th February 2003

West Country Company awarded contract to demonstrate benefits of latest technology to US Army.

Aerosystems International Ltd (AeI), in partnership with Boeing, has been awarded a contract by the US Army to demonstrate the benefits of digital maintenance using the Longbow Apache (AH-64D).

The contract commenced in September 2002 and is due for completion Mid 2004 following a three month full system demonstration at Fort Eustis, Virginia. The trial follows existing trials on the Chinook fleet at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where AeI is partnered with Boeing, and the Black Hawk trial, announced in August 2002, where AeI is partnered with Goodrich.

Richard Wilmot, Director, Advanced Systems, AeI Inc states" We are thrilled to be adding the AH-64D trial to the existing platform trials and believe the solutions being offered will enhance the US Army's maintenance systems."

AeI's Sapphire Maintenance Management System, a web-based solution, with an architecture that allows for enterprise-wide scaleability, while providing the maintainers with a user friendly, mobile, data capture interface. Integration with the existing Longbow Integrated Maintenance Support System (LIMSS) and the Integrated Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) is key to the success of this trial and Sapphire has been designed to network easily using dedicated interfaces or the internet.

The aircraft maintainer's workload will be reduced and the system will provide greater ability to apply directed insight to obtain continual improvement in maintenance policies and processes. This automated maintenance environment will identify and collect information about the people, parts, tools and time associated with each maintenance task.

Aerosystems International is a leading company in the analysis, design, development and delivery of complex, software intensive systems for the aerospace industry. It also develops cutting edge systems and smart technologies for various industrial applications.

Aerosystems International (AeI) is based in the United Kingdom, with offices in the USA. With around 450 personnel, our range of skills allows the company to provide cost-effective solutions.

"On behalf of the entire Boeing C-17 team, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting our efforts in securing the lease of four aircraft to the Royal Air Force(RAF). This is a significant victory, made possible in large part because of your work on our behalf, and we believe it paves the way for additional such programs in other countries. It is the benchmark and our collective performance will be watched closely around the world."

David Spong
Vice President-General Manager, Airlift & Tanker Programs, Boeing.
