New Software Package designed to aid compliance with ATEX 137.

Terrington Systems, specialists in providing cost-effective data collection, management and analysis solutions, has developed Ind-EX, a software package designed to help demonstrate that working environments are operated and maintained with due regard for safety. The Ind-EX software package ensures a proven maintenance record for all items of EX equipment, therefore helping companies comply with the European directive ATEX 137.

Electrical and electronic equipment in combination with flammable liquids, gases and dust can be an explosive combination if a chance spark or heat causes ignition. For this reason EX equipment must meet high safety requirements and testing and certification are required to confirm that the requirements are met

With mandatory compliance due from 1 July 2003 for new installations, Terrington recognised that companies are looking for solutions to help them comply with the new European directive (ATEX 137) regarding improved safety. Part of the directive requires companies to inspect and maintain all EX equipment and keep an up-to-date, accurate EX equipment register.

Ind-EX contains pre-configured close, detailed and visual inspection forms ready for immediate completion on a desktop PC or for downloading to a range of handheld terminals for mobile data collection.

Completion of these forms will ensure that an accurate, up-to-date register is kept of all EX equipment on site. Ind-EX can be configured to individual site structures, providing each area of the site with an accurate list of intrinsically safe equipment.

The software records the complete audit trail, stamping each field completion with user ID, date and time of entry, thereby providing complete traceability. Any exceptions are reported at the point of data collection, instantly warning the operator of potential problems and allowing immediate investigation.

Ind-EX also contains a scheduling facility, ensuring that maintenance checks are kept completely up-to-date, with immediate notification if the next inspection is missed.

Terrington Systems specialises in providing cost-effective data collection, management and analysis solutions and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aerosystems International, a leading company in the analysis, design, development and delivery of complex, software intensive systems.

"On behalf of the entire Boeing C-17 team, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting our efforts in securing the lease of four aircraft to the Royal Air Force(RAF). This is a significant victory, made possible in large part because of your work on our behalf, and we believe it paves the way for additional such programs in other countries. It is the benchmark and our collective performance will be watched closely around the world."
