Work is about to start on a state of art office facility for Aerosystems International (AeI), a hi-tech company with its headquarters in Yeovil, Somerset, which develops smart technology for the aerospace industry. The building will be constructed on a 3.5-acre site close to the GKN Westland factory. The site was acquired by UK & European Investments from, amongst others, South Somerset District Council. AeI was founded in 1985, with 15 staff. Today it has 520 staff around the country with 300 in Yeovil. The company currently has five offices in and around Yeovil. The new 50,000sq-ft (4,645 sq m) office will provide state of the art facilities for staff and customers and the building will be designed to create a positive working environment that encourages creativity and innovation. The plans include an atrium, which will hold up to 100 staff at any one time and will feature Café amenities. There will also be up-to-date video conferencing, telecom and IT services and shower and changing facilities to encourage staff to adopt the company's Green Travel Policies. There is also scope for further office expansion on the site. AeI's Managing Director, Scott Roy, visited the site based at Alvington lane on the Western outskirts of Yeovil and is delighted that building work is getting underway. He took the opportunity to talk with Colin Hollis the Construction Director of Warings, a construction group experienced in providing leading edge companies with innovative building solutions. Scott Roy comments, "The company and its staff have been planning this for several years and it is great to be getting the project underway. This will be one of the first hi-tech offices of this size in the area and we are confident that we will continue to attract hi-tech personnel to what is fast becoming known as "Silicon Orchard". James Brooke-Webb from UK & European Investments, comments: "We are delighted to be working with Aerosystems International to create a fitting and exciting new headquarters for this rapidly expanding company." UK & European Investments is the property investment and development arm of the Lewis Trust Group, one of the UK's largest privately owned companies. Note to Editors: Aerosystems International, jointly owned by GKN Aerospace and BAE SYSTEMS, was formed in 1985 for the sole purpose of developing aerospace systems and software, combining the avionics and systems expertise of GKN Westland with the software and project management skills of BAeSEMA.
