The First of the Westland Apache attack helicopters was officially handed over to the army on 15 March 2000. Present were representatives from the Apache division from AeI, demonstrating the capabilities of the MDS, MPS and ACCESS systems.
Eight more Apaches will be delivered this year, with the full order completed by 2003. Apache offers the army of the 21st Century a quantum leap in capability as significant as the introduction of the tank in the 20th Century. Note to Editors: Aerosystems International, jointly owned by GKN Aerospace and BAE SYSTEMS, was formed in 1985 for the sole purpose of developing aerospace systems and software, combining the avionics and systems expertise of GKN Westland with the software and project management skills of BAeSEMA.
